ESSAC is the Science Support and Advisory Committee of ECORD (the European Consortium of Ocean Reseach Drilling).
ESSAC is responsible for the scientific planning and coordination of European contribution to, and participation in IODP,
including nominating scientists for IODP cruises and representatives on IODP science panels and committees.
The committee consists of national delegates and alternates of the respective ECORD country member.

3 Events to outline the ECORD vision of Scientific Drilling
The Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) is now starting to plan the future of ocean drilling beyond 2013.
In this context a key conference INVEST is planned for Sept. 23-25, 2009 in Bremen, Germany to discuss future directions of ocean drilling research.
ESSAC discussed the opportunity to organize a SESSION at the EGU General Assembly 2009 in Vienna, Austria,
followed by a 1-2 days WORKSHOP specifically addressing the future of European scientific drilling research
with the objective to sharpen the European interests in the future IODP and to prepare the INVEST Conference.
Beside the session and the workshop ESSAC invites you to participate in this consultation process
via a QUESTIONNAIRE.
